DAY 1: AREQUIPA / MIRADOR DE TAPAY / SAN JUAN DE CHUCCHO / SANGALLE OASIS:

In van we leave at 03:00 – 04:00 in the morning towards Chivay. During this ride we reach a maximum height of 4,910 m. Between 09:30 and 09:45 we stop in Chivay (the main city in the Colca Canyon) and arrive at 11:30 in Cabanaconde located at an altitude of 3300. Then we start our journey. The first 15 minutes we walk over the high plain of San Miguel with its terraces, planted with corn and pass a cemetery from the eighteenth century. Then we arrive at a lookout on the edge of the Canyon located at an altitude of 3400 meters from which we then descend for three hours to the Colca River located at 2254 meters. After a short rest we cross the bridge and start with a short steep climb and then walk for half an hour through the green valley of the Colca Canyon to San Juan de Chuccho. Here live about 25 families in rustic houses made of loam. In one of these houses we eat a lunch prepared on a wood fire. After Lunch walk in about 1 hour to Cosnihua. Here you can find a number of small shops in the "main street" where you can buy water, cookies, chocolate, and other supplies for the trip. Then we walk about 15 minutes until we reach Malata, known for its rustic church made of clay and stone and in this same town we visit a small museum where examples of clothing, agricultural technology and food characteristic of this area are exhibited. From here it is an hour downstream to the oasis called Sangalle. Here we arrive after a total of about 6.7 hours of walking. There are swimming pools that use water from natural springs with an average temperature of about 22 degrees Celsius. Here we will spend the night in simple huts.

DAY 2: OASIS / CRUZ DEL CONDOR / CHIVAY / PUNO - AREQUIPA

Today we start around 4 o'clock with our climb up which usually takes 3 hours but if the group consists of physically good hikers, it can also be done in less. In total, a height difference of 1200 meters will be taken and there is the possibility to rent mules if one is no longer able to continue walking. When we arrive at the top we will have breakfast and then we will go to Cruz del Condor where we can observe the flight of the condors from the viewpoint. Around this hour you will have the best chance to see the condors.  We stay here for about an hour before returning to Chivay where lunch can be had (not included). On to Puno, arrival around 19:00 or back to Arequipa.
