The Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu is one of the most famous treks one can do in the Cusco region and is without a doubt one of the best and most beautiful options to hike via an alternative route to Machu Picchu. Voted by National Geographic as one of the 25 most beautiful treks in the world, this variant, of the often pre-booked classic Inca trail, willbe a worthy and extraordinarily beautiful alternative to get to know Machu Picchu in a sporty and adventurous way.
During the trek we see different types of landscapes. It is the best option to get acquainted with the Peruvian Andes and its beautiful snow-capped peaks, which one will see up close. The salkantay mountain, sacred to the Incas, is 6270 meters high. During our trek we will walk on the Salkantay pass, which at 4650 meters is the highest point of this multi-day trek. Gradually we see the landscape change from mountain climate to rainforest climate and at the end of this multi-day trek we walk through the dense vegetation of the Peruvian jungle to visit Machu Picchu on the last day.
The Salkantay Trail can be done in four or five days:
