The Cordillera Blanca

Located northeast of Lima, Huaraz is about an eight-hour bus ride away and is ideal for those who love hiking and beautiful mountain scenery. In the Cordillera Blanca, as this mountain region is called and which is part of the Andes, one can find several mountains with peaks above 6000 meters, 663 glaciers and 269 mountain lakes.

Because most tourists come for the beautiful nature and to do short day trips or multi-day treks, it is important to know at what time of the year one can best come. The best period is from May to September, which is the dry period and when one has the greatest chance to see the beautiful white mountain peaks against a blue cloudless sky. From November to February is the rainy period and one must therefore take into account rain but also muddy paths and days with a lot of clouds so that one will usually not see the higher mountain peaks.

There are many opportunities to do multi-day treks but also one-day shorter excursions and short treks for those who do not have much time or are less sporty. In Huaraz and the Cordillera Blanca there is something for everyone who loves nature, but good planning in advance is definitely recommended.
